The run up to Christmas can be so hectic that most of us often forget about New Year’s Eve! For home cooks, Christmas is full of food prep, tableware organisation (not to mention gifts, decorations…the list goes on!!) that it can be a little stressful.

Even really serious home cooks need a break from being the host, sometimes! Not got any plans yet? Don’t worry, we’ve got it covered, from sophisticated dinners to something a little livelier…

We are very excited to share with you the latest news from Galvin Restaurants… Café a Vin, Galvin’s fine dining restaurant located in Spital Square, will be closing its doors on 4 January. Not to fear, its good news, as the restaurant is closing to undergo a redesign and refurbishment.

Its estimated opening date will be 20 January, where it will be opening its doors under a new name, Galvin Hop: a Pub de Luxe. Jeff and Chris Galvin are planning on opening a few pubs in the future, the next one being The Green Man in Great Waltham, Chelmsford, with Galvin Hop forming the flagship if The Galvin Pub Company.

Galvin Hop will offer a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere, open from breakfast and offering a range of dining options from a “grab and go” LuxeDog to a three course meal from a seasonally inspired menu.

As well as the amazing food, the drinks menu will be equally impressive. Copper tanks above the bar house fresh unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell, brought weekly from the Czech Republic, which is complemented by a wide range of bottled craft beers and cutting edge wine system, serving boutique wines on tap.
